Old-Rectory-Plettenberg-Bay-circa-1900-Restorica-1981-A-Kingston-Gore-Cuthbert

This is the Old Rectory when there was a lot of camping due to it being very close to the sea. It is privately owned now and in bad repair, most has been taken over by vagrants.

Across the road is the wood shed which is also in bad repair. Most of the wood used for window frames have been used for firewood.

This was an Anchor from one of the first boats to bring in wood.

When I first came here there used to be a Wagon complete. The problem was that the municipality did not consider this area as Historic so it has been used for firewood and scrap by vagrants.

The town is usually quiet unless we have a Biker funeral or the Plett Ragerain spider

We do get a few surprises when getting up in the morning but that just life.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

Main Beach is on the far left, the Beacon Isle hotel is on the left of the beach.

This is one of the landing spots on the Main Beach the hotel is then on the right.

If you like Mushrooms, DON`T pick these.

These seem OK, BUT always check before cooking.

Ill finish off with a visitor to the flower garden, this frog is so small it doesnt even bend the flower stem. End of Part Two……………..

I haven`t written a blog for some time so this is a bit long.

At least the sunrises are still the same and are reliable. I do wonder about the old Sheepherders rhyme of `Red in the morning shepherds warning` as most mornings they appear red at some stage as do the sunsets ๐Ÿ™‚

Due to the bad state of the veggies in the supermarkets, plus their prices, have made me enlarge the veggy garden. I decided that if you can`t eat it don`t waste time watering it. fresh veg from even a small garden like mine supplies us with most of our needs. With the amount of sunshine we get some veggies even grow in the winter. I found some purple climbing beans which so far have been grown in pots on bamboo frames and seem to grow all year round. While they are cooking they change from purple to green, so they look like bush beans. I usually grow Bush beans as they are very prolific with their yield. Along with Swiss Chard,Carrots, Leeks, Turnips and Sweet Potatoes, all of which grow very well in my garden we just have to get potatoes or pasta. We have all the herbs growing together so there is no shortage of fresh herbs. Basil and many of the leafy herbs grow nicely in small pots in the kitchen window box, so they are easy to get when cooking.

I have a bread maker and found that home made bread is much tastier than shop bought. For us I just make a small loaf but sometimes it goes in a day. Everyone seems to prefer the French bread because it uses less sugar. After the second rise I take the paddles out so when it`s baked there are just two 6mmholes in the bottom. If the paddle are left in they either ruin the loaf when you try to remove it or they stay in the loaf and have to be taken out when you cut it. An experiment to make Rye bread that was lighter, I mixed Rye flour with white bread flower.

We still have frogs on the dahlias and veggies, maybe it`s because we don`t use any pesticides. It`s not that we tried to grow everything organic but all our compost we get from my daughters farm, even the pine needles for mulch.

At the farm I noticed that even the frogs were competing against the cats for fresh food. the noise from the Dams is very loud at night, at first I thought it was Wild Ducks ๐Ÿ™‚

At least the sunrises are different every day which makes them very photographic.

Although Queeny was a feral cat she gave us two years of company. At first she was called `Beryl the Feral `. She was a very scrawny cat and would not let you get within half a length of the garden near her. Through putting food and milk down every day she became close and filled out to be like a full size house cat. When it came to food time she would come close and rub aggainst your legs and twine around them, but if you tried to touch her she would rush away. This suited us as she slept outside on a cane chair, but as soon as the window opened in the morning she would jump up an meow for breakfast. Last week she came back from searching the neighborhood and began coughing, because she couldn`t eat her pellets we had to get so Tuna and mash it , he kept that down for a couple of days . On the following Monday we got Paws to come and look at her, they decided to try and get her into a cage. that proved quite a problem with her being feral, but we managed it. She was taken away but they informed us a few hours latter that the damage to her throat was too bad so they had to put her down. the whole family seems to be have pet problems, my son catย  `Tabatha` was run over and killed last Tuesday and my youngest daughter had their dog Gipsy die of old age.

This was `gipsy` three years ago when she still swam in the dam on a farm where she was staying.

After soaking this Sea Bean for over a week I decided to grind a bit off the edge to assist it to start sprouting. The closest name I can get is that this bean is some type of hamburger bean but when it grows we will find out where it comes from. Most of the Sea Bean info on the net comes from the USA so is difficult to apply.

I was reading a blog by fletcher about making dog biscuits which was very good. This reminded me that our feral cat the other day meeowed up at me while I was eating a peanut butter sandwich, so I gave it a bit, which never touched sides and she eat half of it before walking away. That made me think , as well as fish or meat flavors maybe they should bring out a peanut butter flavor J This is the first feral cat that insists on drinking milk every day, probably her mother weaned her too young.

In with my herbs I have Echinacea growing and hoping to make some drops for the prevention of colds and flu. I`ve been using the flower heads like the Chamomile but the books say you can use the whole plant.

Well Christmas has come, and gone. Now we are entering a brand new Year, which for younger members it is full of a lot more possibilities.:-)

I think that maybe my life is mapped out for the next year and it won`t be much different for this last one. At a certain age you normally stick to things that you know and have worked before. I still like my photography and am of the opinion that a photograph is better than words. Computers are still a useful tool as it makes it possible to communicate with people thousands of miles away. As far as photos go I seem to be using a cell phone more often now as it`s so easy and maybe a person gets a bit lazy with age. I have taken sunrises and sunsets with a DSLR camera and they make great posters but you can only display a few so most get reduced to 500pixels wide and used on blogs.

This was taken on an overcast day and does not have a ot of different colors with which to make a poster.

This one however was clipped and gave a picture with a bit of atmosphere as most of the ones with the sun coming through the clouds do.

The sunsets are usually colorful but the sky has to be clipped unless there are a lot of clouds to reflect the setting sun.

This must be one of the unusual feral cats that beg for a saucer of milk morning and night.

I am still busy in the garden and this morning I had to pick these items plus a lot of Swiss Chard. I am lucky that my one daughter comes and takes some for her family as I seem to be over producing. I`ve always wondered why more people don`t do this as there is nothing better than home grown veggies, especially when you see what the supermarkets are palming off on the public.

Our Feral cat has taken up residence in the water bowl on the wall. Now there are two trains of thought on this, it either fits her body so she feels safe, or, she`s waiting for the birds to come for a drink. She used to wait in the nearby shrubs and wait for the birds, but never caught any as they were too quick.

After waiting for a while with no birds in sight she decides just to sleep there.

Going to Baviaanskloof was quite interesting as a site was found where the old SADF did their training before going into Angola. Some of the rounds are very corroded so have been there quite some time but show the two calibers used. Even live rounds were found as well as blanks. The blanks are unusual as they are made completely of brass in one piece. This is so the cycle properly on full auto. The ones found were for the older R1 rifle which dates back to the 60`s when it started out as the FN self loading rifle.

All cases found with metal detector.

This is the R1 blank the same as used in the FN rifle.

This appears to be a live round from the latter smaller bore R3, this is a basic copy of the AK 47 (AK74)

.

The sunset was not very colorful tonight, but you can`t win them all.

Today I did very little except drive around and do a bit of shopping.ย  A word of advice to anyone selling a car, always do the change of ownership papers yourself. I filled in the pap[ers and handed them over in November last year.ย  Two weeks ago I got fines totalling R1000, on enquiring I found I was still the registered owner. Lucky the Traffic Department advised to fill them in with the drivers details and send them with a covering letter.ย  As I had no forwarding address for the new owner and they wouldn`t give it to me, I wrote in the letter that they must ask my local traffic department for it.

In my last blog i showed how big Alice has got in her pregnancy and her new birthing hut. I found a photo of her 8 weeks after her last birthing experience.
