Do you remember when this coin would buy a box of matches ?cows head

And I thought that only wild animals got mounted. Surely this didn`t need tracking ?

camwet

This little camera makes a good carcam and can also be viewed on my smartphone while shopping, so is better than an alarm. It`s used for divers under water and divers from planes. It came with a host of mounting attachments.

There are still some old friends that come to visit so all is not lost.

It seems that spelling in school is still a problem even though we have so many departments.

During the Whale season here we don`t get photos like this very often as there seems to be quite a radicle change in the whale population.you have to go quite far out in the bay now and most of the Whales are not Southern Right Whales like they were a few years ago.

firstfairyhouse

It`s quite funny how a few years ago I was building fairy houses like this for my grand children and now all they want to see is a smart phone or computer. where do the years go to as you get older ? These photos have been on earlier blogs which seems to be a form of rambling but they are from ones that never went anywhere 🙂

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year , just in case I don`t blog for a while 🙂

It`s strange when you look at photos after downsizing. Sometimes you don`t remember where they went, other times giving things away leaves a lasting memory.

These were made from bits of wood that I found in Tokia forest, but gave them all away to friends and family. Some I still see when I visit old friends.

This display was on the wall of my workshop, most of them are now in the UK at my brothers Dojo and are still seem by many of his students.

This is the bike that was raced at the Rainbow track in Jo`burg when Mike Bramley still ran `Hells Angels` They were great days and possible the best motor cycling days of my life.

This was my first car that I had to get once the family started to grow. It was quite good for the kids as we had a nice mattress in the back so they could sleep when they wanted to. I don`t think this would be allowed now but seat belts were no a requirement then. This was in Durban where I traded it in for a Valiant so we could drive down to Cape Town.

it`s funny but the older you get the more you want to forget birthdays. Unfortunately when you have kids and grand kids this is impossible. it`s also usual to get things that are immediately useful on these days. This year was a little different because we have quite a lot of power outages now, so the only thing you can do is read. I was given a nice large rechargeable lamp which not only has 5  settings for the LED`s but can also be charged with the solar panel provided. I can now charge my phones either from the lamp battery or solar power.

solar lamp

As well as this lamp I got a small battery operated one that clips on the page of the book plus lots of eats and some new t-shirts. so this year was an eye opener and I got all useful presents. so maybe life isn`t too bad in the golden Years. 🙂

I had to put this one in just to show the veiw I wake up to, for those who haven`t seen my blog before.

This is what it  looks like most times when I go out on the Whale Watching boat.

When you can remember this a legal tender and could still buy something with it, you know you are old. 🙂

There are still a lot of birds frequenting the garden and make very interesting animations.

I still love these stills that were taken with a time lapse setting.

This was taken at the Wolf Sanctuary when I last went there. When I saw this I thought of the old saying` Dog in a Manger ` although it`s not a dog it did make me smile.

A bit of a surprise in the veg garden today, I pulled a few Turnips up for some soup and this one weighed 520 grams. the rest were about half the size. My Leeks are also OK for soup b the beetroots are very disappointing only 4 of them have germinated.

I spend quite a bit of time on my computers and it is fascinating to see how some wifi outlets perform. I downloaded Vistumbler for free off the net and found it very good when driving round my area. In the early days there were a lot more open sights but now most people realize that this is expensive and not very good for security.

This one drops out every now and then as the power goes down.

This not have the power but at least it`s reliable.

Most of the sunrises this last few weeks have been very tame with very little color in them. Maybe it`s because of the rain clouds hanging over them. When it `s clear the only time you get a bit of color is as the sun comes up over the mountain, but without the cloud it`s just very bright with a slight corona of yellow.

Well it is a sad farewell from the Whales as they leave the bay. That is my last free ride on the Whale Watching boats as my Daughter and Son in Law have sold the business. Over the years I have more photos than I can put on a blog so I can`t complain.:-)

Even the shop is not decorated as well as it was, even the Dolphin skeleton has gone.

There are many people now who consider blogs as jokes and the only thing in their life seems to be Facebook, twitter and all their variations. Although I have seen quite a few younger people writing blogs, the only problem has been commenting on their blogs because they want them sent to Facebook. When Facebook first started I started a page but don`t use it anymore as it takes too much of my time and dongle megabytes. Twitter and the other social sites seem to me that they are for people that use smart phones to text as they seem restricted by volume. I know that some blogs, mine included, seem to rehash the same subjects over and over. I do it just for fun and have quite a restricted area in which to photograph.

it doesn`t take long for the sunrise to change as these were only minutes apart.

There are quite a few people t5hat email and ask to see things that they are unable to see as they are land bound. This is the reason for the sea life.

Orca teaching the calf to breach in the bay. These are not seen very often so close to the beach, maybe once a year.

051714_1338_5.jpg

This year the boats have had to go further out to sea to get shots of the different Whales.

i still like this one as it reminds me of the one below:—

I have never tried to feel the whales nose but the pig had a very soft nose which I found remarkable as they can dig quite hard ground with that nose.

Even though the whales are not in the bay now we still have a lot of dolphins.

I think I will start of as usual with today`s sunrise and then progress to other subjects. This was taken with an old Alcatel because I was curious as to how the colour would come out.

sunrise alcatel

In between the rain we went to the lookout which is one of the highest points in town. You can see most of the Plettenberg coastline from here. Where the Hotel is now there used to be a whaling station and the spot where the (a) is one the right hand side was made into a desalinization plant a few  years ago. The input pipe is on the beach on the far right, it only provides a very small part of our water needs as most comes from the river.

The Robberg peninsular is now a nature reserve and at it`s base near the left hand side the is a very large colony of Cape Fur Seals. I have also photographed a Caracul near the dip in the center but only the once, they are usually very shy.

This beach looks much better in the sunset.

Today has started off with a brilliant sunrise and the sun is now very warm. Having got through the usual coffee, cigarette and breakfast it`s time to plan the day. My Wife`s idea is that you should plan the day before it starts but I like a bit of relax time first.

cannonhighst

Sitting here today I started to think of a trip I made to Maidstone in the UK a few years ago. This cannon stands in the high Street and used to be very close to `Shawn the Sheep`. This sheep was made of hanging baskets on a wire frame and was maintained by a local flower nursery and was very colorful. It was not there last year and neither was the snow 🙂

Below is an animation that I took with a time lapse setting on the camera. They have another boat called the `Dolphin` which is used for small groups to study Dolphins.

whale breach

The Whale is breaching, it jumps out of the water and lands on it`s back which is hard to see in this clip.

The launching is sometimes  a little rough depending on rouge waves and the wind.

orca

In the background you can see the other boat beyond the Orca. Due to the regulations now only one boat from a company can launch  at the same time.

fatboy dolphin

This was taken from `Dolphin`, of a  Dolphin. It`s a shame but my daughter is selling the company in June so i wont get free trips anymore. I think there are as many photos of sea creatures on my computer as there are sunrises, a lot have never been put on my blog. I hope you enjoyed the photos. Leo
