Archive for the ‘UFO’ Category

As this will probably be my last trip to the UK I have a lot to do in the few week there. When I was there last time my brother only had Alfie the Wolf Hound so it will be great to see if he remembers the walks we had in Mote Park and the local roads. There are now another 2 Grey Hounds so I will have to be careful.

A few photos of Alfie, out and about and sleeping it off. 🙂

Chatham hasn`t changed much over the years, the fruit and veg stalls are still in the street. The most unusual thing was in the other photo taken near the bus center they had a UFO parked and somebody was giving a big speech nearby about visitors from other worlds. 🙂

In the High Street there was an electric three wheeler writing on the walkway controlled by a laptop. further up in town there was a walkway to cross the road, which took a good 6 minutes but on the way back I  went across the road and it took as many seconds. 🙂

Back in Maidstone and we have the Bishops Palace and the Victoria monument both landmarks in the center of town. I normally stay here but it seems to have more closed shops every time I visit. I don`t know what Brexit will do in the future ?

I went to Whitstable to see the wind farm and have lunch and a beer for old times sake. it was very crowded and difficult to find a parking place. When I was in my teens there used to be a pirate radio station, Radio Caroline, anchored out near the wind farm. At the time BBC wouldn`t broadcast Rock and Roll, so it was Medium wave 199 if you wanted to listen. I was living in Broadstairs then so we got a good signal.

My local pub which wasn`t open last time. Some Pubs only open at 15.00 hrs . Many have closed permanently because of no-smoking and the price of beer. The other shop on the corner is a wine and beer shop where I got all my ingredients for making  wine and beer in 5 gallon vessels. This blog is getting a bit long so I wish you all the best, and sign off. 🙂

first cameras

I have tried with all the digital cameras that I have to try and get some night photo`s with very limited success. While I was watching the constellation of Orion move across my field of vision I started to think of some of my early photographic memories. My first thought was of the Ensign full View that I got in 1950, it took a 120 Kodak film which was 21/4″ square. Latter I got a twin lense reflex which had a lot more settings. They took very good photo`s but in those days there was only black and white . It was quite late in the 50`s when they got colour films and they were expensive. In the 60`s I got a 35 mm SLR Miranda Sensorex which I still have. With this camera I took a lot of photo`s with time exposures some were quite weird and started my investigation into UFO`s. I don`t believe in little green men in flying saucers but I love experiment and investigate unusual things in the sky. A lot of my photos have been used by UFOSA for lectures and I think they were misrepresented. Most of these were taken in the mid 70`s and I would like some comments on them. Most were sent to NICAP in the USA and they can`t give me a good reply. This is of of them and were taken around the Southern Cross with a time exposure of 10 minutes.

These are some time delay shots of the night sky. The straight one is a shooting star the other has not yet been explained. These were taken in Cape Town many years ago on black and white film which was rated at 1500 ASA. I was taking pictures around the Southern Cross with exposures of a few minutes. You can see the effect of the Earths spin by the elongated star tracks.

This next one was sent to NICAP in the USA who do research into Aerial Phenomena. With this comparison you can see it was traveling faster than the spin of the Earth. I sent a copy to the newspapers but they contacted CSIR and they said it could not be published. At that time there was a UFO reported landing in Beaufort West and it was fired on by the SAP, so they were sensitive times.

Examining these two photo`s I thought I`d found a UFO.  I was very disappointed when I enlarged it and found it was a bird that flew across while trying my time lapse function on the camera.

Alice is still getting on fine with Angel and they share food, nose to nose.

I still haven`t decided if they are both pregnant or if they have just eaten like pigs and are getting fat.

I seem to have got a resident pigeon that spends a lot of time here. She used to have a nest upstairs on one of the roller blinds.  After two tries at nest building and having the Crows steal her chicks and eggs, she must stay somewhere else. We have a resident Robin that lives in the shrubbery but they seem to get on OK, as the Robin doesn`t eat bird seed.

The Sunset was quite colorful too. That also now sets far to my right and I have to go to the end of the road, instead of taking it from the car park.

I experimented with the then fastest film which was 400 ASA and took it to 8000 ASA by using a mixture of different developers and developing time. I also had a 16mm spy camera and the only bulk film I could get was positive so I used to solarise it, that was developing it half way and exposing it to light and then developing it some more. This also increased it`s speed and I was able to take snap shots in very low light. The advantage of black and white was the use of filters and the ease of developing and printing. Enlarging was also very interesting because you could bring out small parts of the negative which I find a lot more difficult using digital.
moon shots

With my new film I was able to take snapshots through my telescope of the craters on the Moon.  I also used a 400mm telephoto lens with a 2x and 3x converter in line and this worked even better as I could enlarge the frame afterwards.  Taking time photo`s of the night sky was rewarding as it was quick to develop black and white film in those days.  Now with colour film it is getting difficult to get the developing and printing done the same day, and a lot more expensive.
stars
I can however still take pictures of Sun Spots in Digital. My old method was to get a cardboard box and fit tracing paper over one side and put the telescope through a hole in the other and then focus on the paper.  It was just a matter of focusing the camera on the back and taking the photo.

Another interesting thing was pinhole photography.

See last blog for more info.

This was taken from one of my old MS Publisher files, until I can unpack the originals.   All these photo`s have been investigated by NICAP in the USA along with several others that I want to put on my next blog.   This entire publisher file was sent to SAUFO in Cape Town and was used in one of their lectures.   I will also put my return letters on my blog for any comments .   I am not an ardent UFO searcher but I am interested in all mysterious happenings.   Although these photo`s were taken a long time ago I have still been asked for circuit diagrams for UFO detectors by SAUFO and others.              Email: plett.radio@gmail.com

NOTE:

If anyone has and  interest in these and other photo`s and would like copies just email me.  I must stress that I don`t believe in little green men only on unusual happenings in the sky.
