first cameras

I have tried with all the digital cameras that I have to try and get some night photo`s with very limited success. While I was watching the constellation of Orion move across my field of vision I started to think of some of my early photographic memories. My first thought was of the Ensign full View that I got in 1950, it took a 120 Kodak film which was 21/4″ square. Latter I got a twin lense reflex which had a lot more settings. They took very good photo`s but in those days there was only black and white . It was quite late in the 50`s when they got colour films and they were expensive. In the 60`s I got a 35 mm SLR Miranda Sensorex which I still have. With this camera I took a lot of photo`s with time exposures some were quite weird and started my investigation into UFO`s. I don`t believe in little green men in flying saucers but I love experiment and investigate unusual things in the sky. A lot of my photos have been used by UFOSA for lectures and I think they were misrepresented. Most of these were taken in the mid 70`s and I would like some comments on them. Most were sent to NICAP in the USA and they can`t give me a good reply. This is of of them and were taken around the Southern Cross with a time exposure of 10 minutes.

As the sunrise is appearing more to my right now the police flagstaffs and antennas are getting in the way. I now have to go to the lookout to get a full sunrise.

From the lookout at the end of the road.

Have you ever wondered why security vans always have to park on red lines on a corner and make it dangerous to other road users ? There are two here at the same time on opposite sides of the road and it`s difficult to get round them when turning. Then there are the guards hiding behind cars with assault rifles, should they ever use them I think more pedestrians would be hit than bank robbers.

Another thing that makes me smile is the fact that as soon as we have an influx of people in town they start road works or line painting.

Along the high street there are pictures of things around Plett. This was taken in the 1930`s and the Rectory was used for camping. In the foreground the ruins of the timber mill can be seen.

This was taken from the same point last year when I had a good look around the historical site.

As you can see the timber mill is in complete ruin, with all the window frames used for fire wood. There are a lot more trees there now and road access to the beach.

When I saw this in the sky after the sunrise, I thought of `Beam me up Scotty. J

I have put together a few photo`s from around Plett.

In Plett we have `Fricky` who seems to wander around town and get dressed every day with clothing from lost property. Some of the styles are a bit way out and probably done as a joke.

Today he is wearing a car guard top over a tee shirt, swimming trunks, a hard hat and no shoes. He is sometimes wearing a leotard and big boots or two hats and an overcoat. He has very limited vocal skills but has been around for years.

The Matric Rage is still going strong but some look homeless.

Some are still looking for donations and shake tins in your face. Some tee shirts are a bit descriptive, like the one on the left.

There aren`t so many Whales this year but the Dolphins are still around and lead the boat out with some amazing stunts.

Who said Dragons aren`t real. J This looks like a good mock up of a skeleton. I have just cast some Dragons for garden ornaments but one of these would be great to cast.

It has been quite a roller coaster of a ride through the years of blogging and I find it a relaxing pastime. There are some people that you keep in touch with and sometimes move from site to site. Some people write about the same subject all the time, but mine seem to have changed over the years. I used to do technical and DIY type blogs but now they are about things that happen during my daily life. Maybe it`s an age thing, once you get over 70 things around you tend to become more interesting. I don`t have to travel very far to get photo`s of what I think are interesting because everything has a story, and I love to take photographs. I don`t even have to travel anywhere to get shots like this. Yesterday I went to see Alice and Co and that was only a 10k drive, but made a blog.

And I don`t have to go to the bird sanctuary to see the birds.

If I go to the main beach I can go on a boat and watch the Whales and other sea creatures.

Seeing a Right Whales nose so close is the same as Alice coming to my gate. I have started a serial of Alice`s life on my other blog on wordpress and it seems to have quite a following.

Hobbies have always been something that has taken quite a lot of time in the workshop, but I don`t make these things anymore because my lathe is 10 km away.

At the moment I am experimenting with lasers removed from old computer parts. I got a tourch for my last birthday called a lenser. I thought it was a laser tourch but it was a very bright LED. So far I have only managed to make a very fine beam with the lasers, which is very similar to a laser pointer. Except it shines on the white houses 2 km away and has made some good photo`s when shone on the clouds.

And the sunset should have come before the night sky, but it will make an end to most days.

And the birds are still there at sunset. Have a great weekend…………………………………

I spent the day making an Anemometer for one of my Grandkids so I haven`t been taking many photo`s.  I used to put all the school projects on a few years ago.  But first I think the Sunrise today was quite colorful. I had to use my Wife`s camera as I took the flash card out of mine to fit into another one that does time lapse, I took a few hundred megs of the sunrise.  I think I will have to put it on youtube as it is too big to go on a blog.

Digital Image

One thing I did see while going to the shops in the local center was a Snake up a tree above the tables outside the cafe. After looking at the photo`s I see it is made of plasticor it`s dead and nailed on the tree. 🙂

Tomorrow I go to see Alice at the Wolf Sanctuary so we are usy cooking up some treats. I even found some acorns, which are her favorites.

car guard

She was a very good car guard. 🙂

Spelling in schools is still a problem I see.

I went to the sanctuary for Birds of Prey and had a great time. The handler sent many birds towards us for them to eat off of the gloves provided. The big one decided to land on a tree stump beside me and just make a noise first.

The smaller one I managed to get a photo of with my left hand, you get quite ambidextrous spending time with these birds.
Back in the garden there is a good way to put seed out for the garden birds. Get a fir cone and put some Peanut Butter on it and then roll it in the seed. They eat the seed and peanut butter and don`t throw the seed all over the garden.

Have you ever thought of people being two faced. I took a photo of my grand Daughter and cut it in half, then made reverse pictures and put them together. I now have a three faced person, one original and two made up from the half faces.

Lael both sides

And one more Sunset to end the blog.

Have a great weekend. Leo

Today has been one of the heaviest rainfalls this year. Everything went wrong, from the water butt to the guttering overflowing. It was like being on an Island when I first looked out of the door this morning. so I am sitting at the computer now making up a blog after a hectic morning.

I have heard of a Jack in the Box since my early days but now we have a blogger by the name of  “Jill in the Box “, I think that`s great. 🙂

There have been quite a lot of snakes arround just lattely but my Son says they are not as dangerous as i first thought, or he is braver.

In the garden i still get a few Bats flying around while I`m Star gazing, I have to press the shutter when I see them pass next doors outside light.

Going to the beach is also good for photo`s as there are not many Whales around today. These birds are better at fishing than me, maybe I must get a Microlite.
