Well after trying to get some of these Sea Beans to sprout I have taken a drastic method. On the large one that I soaked for a couple of weeks and then planted, but didn`t sprout, I filed it on the join until I found what looks like a joining of the two halves.

Have you ever used Firefox by Mozilla, I found it much better than the IE that comes with Windows. I do however have a problem with Windows Explorer shutting down now and then.

I`m up early again as it`s mushroom time, these mushrooms are Pine Rings and are very flavorsome. I like them as a snack, lightly cooked in a bit of butter and served on a piece of toast.

Unlike this little frog the only ones that I have seen in the flowers have been pure white. The reason I was unable to photograph it was that I had the wrong glasses on and thinking it was a bug I shook it off.

With all that`s gone on in the last two blogs it`s made me think of the good times. We went to the farm today where we stayed with one of our daughters some time ago. I used to collect a lot of mushrooms in my spare time, I even wrote blogs on how to make nice tasting snacks. I used to take a pet pig called Alice with me as most of the places were in the bush. Most of the mushrooms I got were Pine Rings as they are very easy to identify.

She used to love the brush and her coat was very shiny because I would do twice a day.

She would rattle the stoop gate every morning for breakfast and then we would go for a long walk to get the mushrooms. She never eat them but she would find them under the pine needles. She was so protective, very much like a dog. The one time when we were out walking a trial biker came too close and she chased him, and even barked like a dog. I don`t know if she was imitating the dogs on the farm or not.Although she was a heavy pig she could run alongside of my car when I came down the driveway at 25km 🙂

She was also the most alert car guard I have ever had 🙂

One thing she did love was hard boiled eggs and eat them great finesse. That was OK because there were plenty of chickens on the farm 🙂

With power outages and blackouts were not a problem when I was a kid as the household was quite sufficient. There were no Computers, cellphones, video games or electric appliances. The radios had a 120volt battery and a 1.5volt accumulator. The stove was gas only and a fridge for the milk was a clay cover that stood in a saucer of water, very much like a bush fridge. The only thing was at night we used candles or firelight , as torches didn`t have bright LED`s so didn`t last too long.

Yesterday we had 2 load sheds, the first was 4 hours and the second was a bit shorter and maybe the next story will explain why. When the second load shed came the police station generator kicked in but after about half an hour it stopped, I then went to switch our power on but nothing happened. I took a look at the police station and it was blacked out, they like Eskom had run out of Diesel. We have just got another load shed and I didn`t hear the generators so I looked over the wall, and all I saw was police men with torches. It is very dark inside there as the windows are quite small. Anyway they are enjoying a long smoke break, no tea break, no computers and no police radio. I wonder because they are parastatal do they have the same problems with diesel as Eskom ? They could go to the local petrol station as they still have some.

With all the power cuts I thought I would go to the farm and take a few photos of the sunsets there.

There are a lot of mini climates around this farm and I have found some very peculiar things in the surrounding bush.

If this is a mushroom then it`s the ugliest one I have ever seen. J

If you like metal detecting this is the easiest circuit to make, but you may only find bottle tops and nails.

These were found on a beach with a similar detector, good luck J

I have also had a small break from blogging due mainly to my move. Having got most things sorted I can now look for new material and photo`s.

earthstar S

I have collected mushrooms for many years but have never seen one (Earth Star) in the wild.  while preparing the soil in my new garden I found three of them. Looking in the Mushroom book I find that although they are very common, not very many are found. The positive thing is that they only grow in places where there is a lot of humus and vegetable matter in the soil. I`m hoping to make a good veggy garden here this year.
