I had quite a lot of language problems when working in the UK as lots of little words came to mind, some of which I can`t put on this page.

It`s terrible when you get old as most youngsters are into cell phones and         technology. Their favorite saying is ( did you plug your brain cell in last night) 🙂

I had a tooth pulled a couple of weeks ago, now I have to see a Maxillo facial surgeon to have the hole plugged that goes from mouth to nose. It was quite a shock when washing my mouth out and suddenly having a waterfall from your nose. Does anyone have any info on this problem. The Dentist took X-rays so I think I should have been referred to the Maxillo guy first as now he wont touch it for 6 weeks. All extra money in someone else`s pocket 🙂

This was no laughing matter but all the fynbos is growing very well now. At least most people have got rid of the large pines but it`s making the place look very strange and empty.

They used to party a lot round here before the fire.

I mentioned in an earlier blog that the baboons had been burned out of their natural habitat up on the airport road. even the veggie garden at the farm is half burned out so there are only sweet potatoes there. In my veggie garden the sweet potatoes did not yield much when I dug them up, there seemed very few big ones, but the baboons found them digging with their hands. On going round the side of the house after hearing several grunts I found a big Baboon sitting on the wall eating a very large sweet potato as if it was a Hotdog. they had eaten most of the Turnips and pulled all the tomato plants out. This was after the last fire so I`m just waiting now to see what will happen.

the whole family

When they came last time it seemed like a family affair.

When big daddy appeared in the bushes , things changed.

On showing his teeth it was best to go inside 🙂

inhouse

I think he`s outmaneuvered me, but he looks a lot smaller and did not like being on the same stoop.

I am busy pulling as many turnips and sweet potatoes up as can be used and just hope they don`t rubbish my bean plants like last time. It`s time now to plant the winter veg in the front where an eye can be kept on them. So most of the things used in the kitchen are mostly in pots or troughs.
The ground around the farm areas will be quite fertile for the next crop as there is a lot of burned foliage and ash to dig in, before it`s blown away with the wind. There are a lot of places that I saw in that area that have already got vynbos coming through after a week or so. I think most of the problems were caused by the pine trees as the vynbos needs a fire to get regrowth and are not so difficult to contain, as I saw on one of the farms nearby. Our municipality decided many months ago not to collect garden refuge which is causing fly tipping. I think if they collected it still and made it into compost for sale, it would produce employment for those who cannot do technical jobs and improve the local situation.

I think it`s time to dress up and scare them away.

Well we have had some good rain lately so that must be good, and the wind has dropped.

I haven`t blogged for a while and am suffering from withdrawal as I used to be a bloggerholic. The sky in the morning always seems more interesting in the winter months so  will start off with yesterday.

As we have a problem with water in the Cape its quite surprising that there are so many veggies still growing.I`ve been using rain water for a while now and it`s getting low so may have to use grey water.

There are quite a few insects and other creepy crawlies around. i find the Prey Mantis very resourceful. When they catch a bee or wasp they keep the sting out of the way while they eat it.i was very surprise to see the even eat Gecko`s, but they do it while it is alive.

have you ever cooked an egg in the early morning and thought it came from outer space ?

Then there is the time when you wonder where you put your reading glasses because the print is too small.

Before I go to sleep I like a hot cup of something, but this cup was a bit cold. Don`t put a full cup in the microwave 🙂

it`s funny but the older you get the more you want to forget birthdays. Unfortunately when you have kids and grand kids this is impossible. it`s also usual to get things that are immediately useful on these days. This year was a little different because we have quite a lot of power outages now, so the only thing you can do is read. I was given a nice large rechargeable lamp which not only has 5  settings for the LED`s but can also be charged with the solar panel provided. I can now charge my phones either from the lamp battery or solar power.

solar lamp

As well as this lamp I got a small battery operated one that clips on the page of the book plus lots of eats and some new t-shirts. so this year was an eye opener and I got all useful presents. so maybe life isn`t too bad in the golden Years. 🙂

I had to put this one in just to show the veiw I wake up to, for those who haven`t seen my blog before.

When you can remember this a legal tender and could still buy something with it, you know you are old. 🙂

There are still a lot of birds frequenting the garden and make very interesting animations.

I still love these stills that were taken with a time lapse setting.

This was taken at the Wolf Sanctuary when I last went there. When I saw this I thought of the old saying` Dog in a Manger ` although it`s not a dog it did make me smile.

I haven`t done much blogging for a few months so this one will be a bit long. Have you ever tried to revive an old blog that`s on another site, I have and it can be very disappointing when the forbidden notice comes up on the screen. forbiden

This came up on iblog which is not a problem as it hasn`t been updated since 2012. iblog2

This unfortunately was taken with a bad cell phone and is out of focus. The pictures at the bottom used to be changed every day to show who were the top favorites.

Trying to grow my big Sea Bean didn`t work out very well as I over watered it in a heavy soil and it went black. I think I should have grown it like the Avacado Pear pips on the window ledge.

I still enjoy watching the sunrise every morning with my first coffee and cigarette. then at night time there is always the Sunset, if I remember.

Life is still amusing especially when you see things like this. Why are these men shoveling gravel into a front loader? Maybe someone didn`t read the instruction manual for the front loader.

This Autogiro is quite strange as it was built from a kit. It has a pusher prop at the back and the rotor spins as it moves forward to give it lift. I see it quite often down near the beach but it landed one day at the Airport near the farm. I don`t think they travel very fast as the helicopters leave it well behind.

These Pansy Shells used to be found in abundance on the Plettenberg Bay beaches many years ago but I haven`t seen one there in the last five years. When I first started detecting on the beaches people said maybe I would find some shells there but so far they have been allusive.

If you think that it never snows in South African towns just look at this photo taken a few years ago. This is only about 200 meters from the sea. Even the beach had snow on it.

This was my brothers back garden in the UK the same year, as you can see the snow was a lot deeper there even 6 months later.

For people who like memorial foot paths, this was inlaid into the pavement near Buckingham Palace. Very similar to the sidewalk near Hollywood in the USA but smaller.
