I make a lot of bread but when I cut a slice it always seems to go on an angle. This is a great problem to my Wife as she always cuts the next slice after leveling the loaf off at the end. This then causes me a problem as the loaf is finished much quicker. Having done quite a bit of woodwork I made a mitre block for the bread and now the slices are always straight.

My Wife has started making Sauer Kraut and it is difficult to get jars to make it in. She has tried pickling jars but they are too small and do not make much. We tried using plastic containers but they made too much and we have had to give most to friends and family. Looking through the cupboards I found a hotel style pickle jar and cut it down so it is straight inside and allows a disc to slide all the way down, That means that there is always pressure on top of the cabbage. This now holds one green cabbage and half a red one which makes lovely pink Sauer Kraut.

I made a wooden right angle on it`s side so I could turn the bottle and then cut the bottle with a diamond cutter in my dremmel whilst turning the bottle.

I tried out a solar oven by making a loaf in a small tin and it worked very well as the sun is still hot.

This is an upside down cake made in a solar oven made with a cardboard box and aluminum foil. The only problem is that it cooks but doesn`t brown the crust and was a little soggy. I will have to make a bigger parabolic reflector type like the small one I use for making coffee.

At mid day it takes about ten minutes to make a coffee. J

first cameras

I have tried with all the digital cameras that I have to try and get some night photo`s with very limited success. While I was watching the constellation of Orion move across my field of vision I started to think of some of my early photographic memories. My first thought was of the Ensign full View that I got in 1950, it took a 120 Kodak film which was 21/4″ square. Latter I got a twin lense reflex which had a lot more settings. They took very good photo`s but in those days there was only black and white . It was quite late in the 50`s when they got colour films and they were expensive. In the 60`s I got a 35 mm SLR Miranda Sensorex which I still have. With this camera I took a lot of photo`s with time exposures some were quite weird and started my investigation into UFO`s. I don`t believe in little green men in flying saucers but I love experiment and investigate unusual things in the sky. A lot of my photos have been used by UFOSA for lectures and I think they were misrepresented. Most of these were taken in the mid 70`s and I would like some comments on them. Most were sent to NICAP in the USA and they can`t give me a good reply. This is of of them and were taken around the Southern Cross with a time exposure of 10 minutes.

Today I must go to the Wolf Sanctuary as I must go and see Alice and take her some Apples.  I am hoping that she has behaved herself during her oestrus better than she did at the farm. She used to chase the workers making a bellowing sound, whether it was the gumboots or the squeaky wheels of the wheel barrow I don`t know.  When I scratched behind her ear she would lay on her side and I would have to brush her, she was then very good for a few hours.   After that I had to got through the motions again. she was beginning to loose a lot of her long hair which I was not sure whether it was just her winter coat moulting or stress.   last time I saw her she was getting on fine with her adopted piglets. Although she was high maintenance I still miss her very much although I was just her custodian.

I was told not to spend so much time with the pig or I may become one. 🙂

Back to the Past.

sterling lines1958a

I even found a photo from 1959 in the UK, when I was at Sterling Lines, living in a wooden Army hut. As you can see in the back ground we were still issued with the Lee Enfield 303 rifles with the screwdriver bayonet.  A few weeks later we were issued with the FN SLR (R1) but only for exercises and target practice. They had a tenancy of loosing the flash eliminator due to breakage and are now replaced with a shorter SA80 assault rifle.

Just a few old Jokes

This is used a lot in the UK and usually means you know nothing about anything.
For some time many of us have wondered just who is
Jack Schitt?
We find ourselves at a loss when someone says,
‘You don’t know Jack Schitt’!
Well, thanks to my genealogy efforts, you can now
respond in an intellectual way.
Jack Schitt is the only son of Awe Schitt. Awe Schitt,
the fertilizer magnate,
who married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt, Inc.
They had one son, Jack.
In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt. The deeply religious
couple produced six children: Holie Schitt, Giva Schitt,
Fulla Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins Deep Schitt
and Dip Schitt.
Against her parents’ objections, Deep Schitt married
Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout.
After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt
divorced. Noe Schitt later married Ted Sherlock,
and because her kids were livingwith them, she wanted to keep her previous name.
She was then known as Noe Schitt Sherlock.
Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt, and they
produced a son with a rather nervous disposition
named Chicken Schitt. Two of the other six children,
Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable
throughout childhood and subsequently married
the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony.
The wedding announcement in the newspaper
announced the Schitt-Happensnuptials.
The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg,
Byrd, and Horse.Bull Schitt, the prodigal son,
left home to tour the world.
He recently returned
from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt.
Now when someone says, ‘You don’t know Jack Schitt’,
you can correct them.

Method of making Animated Header.

I just got 4 random pictures and made 4 jpg frames of 760X151 headers as shown below.

These pictures were then put into Animation Shop, one at a time, which is part of Paintshop Pro.

This is saved as a gif file from Animation Shop. The time scale can be set before saving, this one was set at 320. That is 320 X 1/100 th`s of a second for each frame.

When working as a header the pictures move from left to right on the screen. So the beach scene will become the first picture and so on continuously. Click on the header above, or here to see the original animated header.             This may be a bit slow.

Website with downloads.

If you want to use more sites or just old blogs, try this..

It is very easy to move your blog or web page from one server to the other. Many people have said that they have had problems as they do not get the hits or comments that they expect. I started on blat and tried various names and Avatars, but only since changing to iblog have I had so many emails and comments. Even from my old pages with other providers.
How to save old pages.
First open a word document on Desktop and click new.  Then open the page to be copied in EDIT and click on HTML. Then click  SELECT ALL  and COPY , this can be done on the edit drop down menu or right click on the mouse. Once the page is copied is can be saved in a  word document in HTML.
How to move to new page.
To get this on a new page is quite easy, open the word document and click select all and copy. Then open Add New Post in HTML, click save and your page is ready. Just click Visual to see if your pictures are there and add your title.
This idea leaves your original page where it was and the pictures will still stay with the old page. Sometimes the page will take a little longer to show the pictures, but this has not been a problem.

I managed to recycle Alices roof to make this trough, a sort of remembrance garden I suppose.

This next one is to show how the ponies steal the bran that is put out for the chickens. They move it away with their noses but leave a trail of food of which the chickens eat.

I used to make walking sticks with epoxy skulls on but  decided to make a few ashtrays like,  this to remind me what smoking can do.

Have you ever tried to copy and paste a blog onto another site? I do this very often and found it very time saving as it saves rewriting and uploading the same pictures. When you have written your blog in ” Visual ” click on ” text” .  Save this in ” Word” and it will look like this…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

New House, New Thoughts.

Buckingham Palace didn`t even cost R250M when built and the road was already there.  The new road joining Nkandla to the R66 wil cost another R1.2Bn.   Is this the reason for having sleepless nights thinking about the poor.  Just think of how that could have uplifted the poor in that area, and there are many.

This was found on Facebook during one of my rare visits.
This is a sample of the first part of an earlier blog as it would have taken up too much space.  this format if put onto another site , as is, it will look the same as the original. Sometimes the spacing is different on other sites so some editing has to be done.

I used this idea to make a webpage but over the years some of the sites closed . This has left me with a problem as only the text remains and i must now find the photo`s in my archived hard drives to rectify this.  This problem can be seen by clicking on this hyperlink.

As it will soon be Christmas I will put one of my last years cards  on this blog. 🙂     It`s from  Madam and Eve.

You can also print this label and stick it on a bottle of wine.  Or just get an empty clear bottle, fill with water and put a few drops of yellow food colouring in and seal. It all depends on your sense of humour. 🙂

I`m hoping to get a nose job or facial reconstruction this Christmas.

I must get one of the dogs to rehab during the holidays as he`s not been the same since he went to the kennels while I was away.

Holiday snaps are very good for the family album to look at and revive memories.

This will be mostly photo`s with a few jokes thrown in. sometimes I get the urge to do more than two blogs a day as I find it relaxing. The other reason is that some days I don`t even get the internet, I am trying to sort out my old Wardriving antenna`s out because I think I am too far away from the main house.

This was my first experiment.

WiFi Dish.

WiFi Dish.

As my DSTV dish is no longer needed I have decided to use it for WiFi experiments.I started moths ago with a sieve as a reflector to improve my WiFi signal, it has worked very well especially when mobile. Being some distance from the wireless router I am using the signal keeps dropping.

Signal keeps dropping

Signal keeps dropping

Because I keep loosing the signal I now use this setup with a small sieve as a reflector. In the center of the sieve I fitted the dongle attached to a USB extension cable. When this was fed into the laptop I had a steady signal. I am now waiting for my local shop to get me a dongle with external antenna fitting then I will experiment with some small hi gain antennas. Can be seen on my Webpage, just click her.

Here are a few Bat photo`s done in the garden with a Fuji Film Camera camera with flash. The problem with this camera is that I can`t use the flash when on telephoto. These pictures had to be blown up from pea size objects.

This was the original.

A few things struck me as funny when I was in London last year.

First, what happened to good old fashioned beer. It seems its not good unless it`s Organic.

Then next thing was that you couldn`t smoke anywhere under cover of the rain. which makes it difficult for smokers. there are even notices up on all station platforms stating “ No Smoking” so why was this Steam Train puffing smoke all over the Station and adjoining flats.:-)

Enjoy what`s left of the Weekend and Smile if you can.

As I said not long ago, it never stops raining where you don`t need it.

As soon as it stops the pig seems to want to be my car guard

The windmill is still standing but its just indicating the wind direction at the moment as I have to modify the generator.

At last we have access to the internet again, or so I thought.  The problem is that I still can`t get on all day or every day which is the same as before when we had whispernet.  The signal is quite weak as I have a cottage away from the main house.  I will have to use a reflector that I made a few years ago when wardriving was the in thing.

This is one of the orchids in bloom at the moment, every one is different even the plain colour ones.

Finally remembering Alice when she was just a little pig.
