alice and 6piglets

Today has been quite a morning. First was off to the farmers market in Harkerville where we go some more shrubs for the new garden, and the rain started. We then went down the road to the Wolf Sanctuary and saw Alice and her friends. I was surprised to see that she had not used the birthing hut, but the old boar was lying nicely under the overhang and blocking the entrance. Pigs are very resourceful and if she really wanted to go under cover she would do. She had six piglet running round her as can be seen in the photo above.

She seems to be very happy with her partner although he is not the father. He was neutered at an early age and is a real softy. She had one stillborn so I removed it, you can see it in the right hand bottom corner. One of the staff put it down near a wolf and it took it away into the woods, that’s recycling in reality. They will eat any dead animal if the meat has not been bled.

rip benji

Another shock this morning was that Benji died of old age. He had atheritis in his joints and didn`t hurry anywhere but he was sweet old boar. He gave great enjoyment to those who knew him and was loved by all who visited Benji.  Bellow are some shots I took while having a coffee on the veranda which is next to the shop and kitchen. It seems to be a regular thing to feed the Drongo`s with cheese from the hand. They are remarkably tame and call for cheese with a loud whistle. I made some video but will have to process it before it will upload.
